Barbara Sprague proudly serves as the CEO/Executive Director of the Community Food Bank (CFB) based in Homosassa, Florida. The CFB raises funds, collects food, and provides tangible resources to 60+ food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, senior centers, ministries, and other resource agencies that serve individuals and families throughout Citrus, Hernando, and Sumter Counties.
Since taking the helm in 2019, Barbara led the CFB through the COVID-19 pandemic and the continuing increase in the demand for food assistance throughout the Nature Coast. Thousands of people who never needed help before suddenly found themselves in a position of being unable to feed themselves or their families, and the need continued to grow in 2022.
Barbara has taken the CFB from a local agency providing assistance to 30,000 individuals in need per month to a regional powerhouse ensuring more than 70,000 people throughout Citrus, Hernando, and Sumter counties are fed and nourished each month. She also leads the area’s USDA food distribution effort.
The CFB is projected to distribute more than five (5) million pounds of food in 2022. Barbara continues to devote countless hours to do what needs to be done to ramp up efforts and ensure everyone throughout the three counties served by the CFB has access to wholesome food that not only nourishes families but inspires hope.
