Tampa Bay Philanthropy Week

What is Tampa Bay Philanthropy Week?

Tampa Bay Philanthropy Week, celebrated Monday, November 15th - Friday, November 19th, is an opportunity to celebrate philanthropists, nonprofits, and fundraisers who have demonstrated innovation, resiliency, leadership, and generosity through this difficult year.

PhilanthropyTampaBay.org is a new website with an interactive plugin to allow the community to submit their stories of how they have gone above and beyond for the love of humankind. Anyone visiting the site can submit a story, and together these stories will create a digital quilt spotlighting how Tampa Bay non-profits have been essential through the pandemic.

The COVID-19 pandemic changed everything about how we move in the world in a matter of weeks. Then, the world shifted again after the murder of George Floyd and the wave of social justice protests that followed. Through it all, Tampa Bay philanthropists, nonprofits, and fundraisers have been essential in providing solutions to the ongoing problems our community faces through this health crisis and social unrest.

Our community has countless stories of generosity and innovation as philanthropists invest in long-term solutions, fundraisers work tirelessly to ensure financial stability, and nonprofits address new needs. This prompted AFP Tampa Bay to launch the first ever Tampa Bay Philanthropy Week to help tell these stories as part of a one-of-a-kind, weeklong celebration of National Philanthropy Day.

In 2021, our collective experience has not changed much. Rather than subject you to more virtual meetings, we are going to bring you a week-long virtual celebration of philanthropists, nonprofits, fundraisers, and our community. AFP Tampa Bay will start the campaign on Monday, November 15th and we will conclude our digital festivities on Friday, November 19th with an in-person celebration of philanthropy in our community. The virtual storytelling will take place on our Tampa Bay Philanthropy Week website, our AFP Tampa Bay Facebook Page, and other social media outlets.

Instead of our annual NPD nomination process, we are going to ask members of the community to submit stories of how people in this community are going above and beyond for the love of humankind. We will have a small panel of AFP members enlisted to select five stories as part of a video series that we will share throughout Tampa Bay Philanthropy Week. We will also be spotlighting individuals on our Heart of the Community Gallery on our website and in our TBPW Podcast, which can be found anywhere you like to listen.
